Nimes is our halfway stop today. Another of the great old cities of France.

We don't have a lot of time so we focus on the highlight of Nimes; The Amphitheatre.

The Amphitheatre, built by the Romans at the start of the second century BC, is the best preserved in Europe.

It is still used for all sorts of events today, even though it would not pass any Australian standard workplace health and safety check.

Nimes is really worth a much longer visit. It is a modern city with a lot to see and do. Even the graffiti is artistic.

After stocking up on French treats at the Nimes market we are off again.
On our way to Avignon we make a short detour to visit the Pont du Gard.

Built by the trusty old Romans 2000 odd years ago, it is in near perfect condition, structurally.

The Pont du Gard is built with no mortar. Just blocks stacked upon blocks.
